Bulova, An American Legend
Since its founding in 1875 by 23-year-old Bohemian immigrant Joseph Bulova, the company has produced some of the world’s finest watches.
Beginning in a small jewelry store in Manhattan, with a factory in Switzerland, it has grown to one of the giants of the industry.
Like Rolex and many other manufacturers, the company’s wristwatch line received a big boost with the coming of WWI. The need arose for reliable, accurate timekeeping pieces that could be used to coordinate troop movements, artillery barrages and stand up under rigorous conditions.
Bulova met the challenge.
In 1926 it initiated the program that would make Bulova synonymous with timekeeping when it broadcasts radio commercials declaring ‘Bulova Watch time, 8 pm’.
One of the first to generate TV commercials about watches, the company’s reputation grew as its coffers filled.
Inventor of the world’s first electronic watch, the Accutron (introduced in 1960), it has had a hand in keeping NASA spaceships on time and on target.
A Bulova timer was placed in the Sea of Tranquility on the first moon walk on July 21, 1969. The company has continued its dedication to accuracy, style and reliability ever since.
Among other honors, it is the official timekeeper aboard Air Force One.
Each Bulova model is anti-magnetic - cases and hands don’t stick and movements don’t vary near magnetic fields. All major manufacturers tout their models as shock resistant.
Bulova means it. Crystals are durable and scratch resistant and cases can stand up to a pounding.
Buyers interested in vintage watches will find many to choose from. The 1920 hinge-back is a true classic. The case on the back has a hinge mechanism that allows you to open the back, but never fear losing it. When you do, you’ll see one of the reasons Bulova is known for making fine, accurate and durable watches.
The famed Accutron is still being made, so you can find anything from a 1960 vintage to something produced yesterday. In either case, you won’t be disappointed.
The black patterned dial on a contemporary chronograph provides style and visibility thanks to the sapphire crystal and the anti-reflective coating. Luminous hands and markers provide that same visibility in low-light.
If you’re a sporting person you may want to investigate the Bulova Caravelle. A charcoal gray dial in a stainless steel case, the dual time zone model can keep you on time when racing between two continents.
Can’t decide whether you prefer analog or digital display? Don’t worry, the Caravelle has both. Ultra-functional and high-tech stylish, it does more than keep the time. It keeps you timely.
The Bulova Marine Star is equally loaded with style and features. A gold case houses a black face with three gold mini-dials in addition to the major dial.
A screw back and screw-down crown help keep it water resistant with less reliance on gaskets that can fail over time. Complemented by a unidirectional bezel, you can strap one on and be assured you’ll look great and have all the features you need.
Ladies will find a full range of watches from Bulova that are as much elegant jewelry as they are practical timepieces.
The oval, Gold-Case with stripes of diamonds running down the face is as stylish as they come. It’s matched by a rectangular model that is ablaze with diamonds along a gold case. Diamond encrusted gold straps offer an integrated design.
Whether you’re looking for style, function or the perfect melding of the two, you can never go wrong with a Bulova.
